DC Studios CEO James Gunn has stated that Peacemaker Season 2 is on pace for a summer release with John Cena in the lead role.

Cena reprises his role as the vigilante Peacemaker following the DC Comics character’s big screen debut in the 2021 blockbuster The Suicide Squad.

Following on from the events of Season 1 of Peacemaker, the series will catch up with the character on a more personal basis, according to Gunn.

Speaking at a recent press event, Gunn disclosed the status of the DC Studios project, stating that he’s now editing it while still working on the upcoming Superman movie, saying:

“Peacemaker is all done. I am deep in editing with that at the same time I’m finishing Superman. It’s been really fun.”

With season 1 having had its debut in January 2022, Season 2 of Peacemaker is planned to appear on the Max streaming service in August 2025, approximately a month after Superman’s July 11 release date.

Gunn would go on to laud the performance of Cena in the starring role, emphasising the evolution of the way he portrays the character, stating:

“I think he surprised people a lot in the first season with what he was able to do performance-wise. And the guy grew dramatically in season two. And he’s truly fantastic, as is the whole cast.”

It appears that Season 2 of Peacemaker will give Cena plenty of time to display that maturity as it focuses more on Chris Smith than his alter-ego, with Gunn saying:

“The second season’s much more about the characters and the interconnectivity between the characters and their personal lives.

“It’s more about Chris Smith than it is about Peacemaker.”

Referencing the impending Superman movie, Gunn would also announce that a few performers from Peacemaker will appear.

While fans of Season 1 will no certainly remember the opening sequence of Peacemaker, Season 2 will feature a new song and routine to complement the show’s trajectory, according to Gunn.
