Shelton Benjamin of AEW talks about subtly hostile friendship with WWE star Michin.

Wrestlers Michin (also known as Mia Yim) and Shelton Benjamin have been buddies for years. They have an aggressive relationship on social media and frequently poke fun at each other. During an appearance on “The F Y’all Podcast with C.T. Fletcher,” Benjamin shared some details about his connection with Yim, despite the fact that they no longer work for the same promotion.

“When I originally left WWE … in 2010 and I started doing the indies, I met Mia for the first time,” Benjamin stated.

After witnessing Yim wrestle Mickie James and a remarkable intergender match at another concert a few months later, the former WWE star was amazed by Yim’s in-ring prowess. The two eventually started working together in Ring of Honour, where their bond was cemented.

Naturally, she was a pretty female, so my initial reaction is, ‘Hmm.’ Benjamin went on, “But then I got to know her.” “I say, ‘No,’ because it was one of those circumstances. She is a friend that I truly enjoy. I will not attempt to seem creepy and try to—you know. As a result, we form a big brother/little sister bond.

The two started making light-hearted jabs at one another on various platforms as soon as social media gained popularity, and this has only become worse over time. Among many other sarcastic remarks, Benjamin has accused Yim of spreading untrue rumours that he was let go by WWE in 2022.

Benjamin joined the AEW roster after his real WWE departure in 2023, and he and Bobby Lashley became one half of the AEW World Tag Team Champions. Yim continues to compete in professional wrestling, most recently losing to Chelsea Green for the Women’s United States Championship.
